Inner-Page-Hero

If you already own a Bullfrog spa from Spa Max, then you probably already know what you should and what you should not do while in a hot tub. That is, you should already be familiar with issues like safety, maintenance and care.

But what do you really know? Do you know the highest temperature you can safely set for your hot tub? Is it safe to have just a couple of adult beverages while sitting in your hot tub? If you don’t know these answers, you had better find out.

Do Not Use Alcohol or Drugs

We are so sorry to be the bearer of such bad news, but you should never indulge in drugs or alcohol while engaged in the hot tub. Hot tubbing and drinking are just not a good mix, no matter how many times you have seen it in the movies or on television.

You should also consult with your doctor about using your hot tub while taking certain prescription medications. You see, drugs, alcohol and some prescription medications tend to make you drowsy and really relaxed, which is enhanced while soaking in hot water. Never mind the fact that you can fall asleep in such a condition, you also increase the chances that you fall while getting in or out of the hot tub.

Kids and Hot Tubs

Kids should never be left alone while they are in or even near a hot tub, not even for just a minute or two. This holds true even if the hot tub is covered. You would never leave a child alone near a body of water like a lake or a river, treat a hot tub the same way.

Hot tubs and spas can pose a danger to younger children who can become easily overheated. It is recommended that when you get a hot tub, you should learn how to perform CPR and keep a phone handy by the hot tub in case an emergency does occur. It is best to be well-prepared.

You should take the risks that a hot tub presents to children very seriously. You might even want to consider building a barrier around your hot tub so children can’t get near it.

Just Messing Around

Your time in the hot tub always starts out innocently enough, you and a few friends decide to enjoy a calming soak. But then someone decides to playfully splash their friend and then sometimes this escalates into full-blown hot tub horseplay.

Before you know it, people are wrestling in the hot tub, diving into the hot and being very physical in general. This is all in good fun, of course, nobody is trying to hurt each other. As fun as it may be, it is all too easy for someone to get hurt. Because of the conditions in and around the hot tub, someone can easily slip and hit their head, twist an ankle or break an arm.
It is far safer to chill out while you are in the hot tub.

Extreme Weather Conditions

You should never use your hot tub when the weather takes a turn for the worse. While it might be obvious why, you should never use your hot tub during a hurricane or tornado. But you should also never use your hot tub during a rainstorm where lightning in a possibility.

If it starts raining and you have a hot tub party planned, it is best if you just reschedule it for another day.

Soaking Solo

Again, we hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you really shouldn’t soak in the hot tub all by yourself. This is especially true if you have had a few drinks, take meds that can make you drowsy, have low or high blood pressure or suffer from other medical conditions.

It is a good idea if you wait for a companion to join you for a soak.

Sores and Other Wounds

People who have open sores or any other type of infection should not be allowed in the hot tub. Your hot tub is the ideal environment for spreading infections. This holds true for rashes and other injuries. Before getting in a hot tub, have a doctor give you the green light first.
