It’s only late February, still a ways away from summer, but we are going to throw this out there anyway; it’s time to start preparing for the epic BBQ hot tub party you will be throwing in a few months. That is, if you want to have an epic BBQ hot tub party, you had better start planning it now.

Believe it or not, the powers that be here at Spa Max, your favorite California hot tub dealer, are very knowledgeable in the field of epic BBQ parties. So you can bet that we have some very good advice you should follow. Here are some tips for throwing a BBQ party that your guests won’t soon forget.

Pick a Date

It’s never really too soon to pick the date you wish to have your party. After all, the sooner you let your friends know about it, the fewer excuses they have for not showing up. And if you think that there is a great deal of time between when you notify your friends about the party and the actual date of the party, then perhaps it makes sense to send out two or three sets of invitations and different dates. For example, send out invites in March, April and May for a BBQ party that is being held the last weekend of May.

Serve Epic Food

Tossing some chicken legs on the grill and smothering them with a store-bought sauce will not impress your guests and not make your party epic in nature. Therefore, you need to crank things up a bit.

Here are a few rules to follow when thinking about the food you want to serve at your party:

  • Wrapping anything in bacon makes it 75 percent better.
  • Jalapenos can be paired with just about anything.
  • Add “smoked” to any dish and people are impressed with it. (Think smoked jalapenos wrapped in bacon)
  • Your food should be as colorful as a rainbow.
  • Serving four types of dips is good, serving none types of dips is epic.
  • Cookie dough dip is a thing and it is epic.
  • A pineapple slice or fried egg on a burger makes it trendy, kimchi, charred scallions or crispy trumpet mushrooms on a burger make it epic.
  • BBQ brisket is blah, Cuban-style lamb is epic.

When throwing a BBQ hot tub party, you owe it to your guests to do more than serve mediocre food. Step it up a notch and play your best game here.

Epic Music

Every genre of music has epic selections, except country western of course. Here are some rules to follow when selecting music for your epic BBQ hot tub party:

  • Know the songs you NEVER play at a party, they include Stairway to Heaven, Don’t Stop Believing, Bohemian Rhapsody, Tainted Love and anything by the Eagles.
  • Playing anything by Ed Sheeran or the Chainsmokers does not make you cool.
  • If you feel you have to play something by Led Zeppelin, choose any song from Physical Graffiti.
  • If you are going to play jazz, skip out on Diana Krall and other contemporary artists and stick to the legends like Charles Mingus, Thelonious Monk and Sarah Vaughan.

Epic Drinks

Budweiser and Coors are not and never will be epic drinks. Serving beer from a local brewery is totally acceptable as long as you are going for genuine flavor and not just whatever happens to be trending. And never forget that you should never serve any beer with a slice of fruit in it.

Margaritas and mojitos are as passe as man buns, mesh leggings and 1980s punk rock t-shirts. Go retro and serve classic drinks from an era when men wore fringed leather vests and women’s skirts were shorter than Chris Brown’s temper. So go out and buy the ingredients you need to serve Harvey Wallbangers, Tom Collins, Tequila Sunrises and Pink Ladies for the fairer sex.

By following our tips, you are sure to have an epic BBQ hot tub party that everyone will enjoy and talk about for several weeks after the fact. If you don’t have a hot tub and try to throw an epic BBQ party, you risk failing and losing all of your friends. We recommend you swing by Spa Max and get a hot tub before throwing a party.
