The 2018 World Happiness Report delivered a surprise. Although the United States has never broken the top 10, we have held close with position 14 in 2017 and 13 in 2016. The surprise is that in 2018, we dropped to position 18. It seems we are moving in the wrong direction when it comes to happiness.

Is this just a bump in the road? Perhaps. Years from now we could look back and recall the years we were so low in the happiness index. Breaking the top 10 would be great, but some things would have to change. For example, we need to do more things that make us happy, like soaking in a hot tub and taking more vacations.

Spa Max, your used hot tub source in Corona, has some thoughts on this subject.

What Makes Us Happy?

Studies show time and time again that connecting with others is what makes us happy. The countries that are in the top 10 of the World Happiness Report share a common trait; they tend to value socialization and community over status and possessions. Basically, you are happier sitting in a hot tub with family and friends or taking a vacation with your family than you are owning a Harley Davidson or a Rolex watch.

Another big find was that people who felt close to family and friends tended to be happier than those who didn’t have quality social relationships. In a nutshell, humans are social animals and going against that impacts our health and happiness.

Hot Tubs and Happiness

If you were given the chance to ask people from the top 10 happiest countries what makes them happy, you might be surprised at their answers. Their top answers for what makes them happy were hot tubs and vacations. These people love spending time with their family members going on vacations and soaking in the hot tub. No kidding. They are extremely happy when they take a vacation and soak in a hot tub while at the hotel.

All kidding aside, the people who are most happy in the happiest countries enjoy relaxing in their hot tubs with family members. They consider it the perfect “together” time. It is all too easy to focus too much on work and other problems. Soaking in your hot tub or taking a vacation is the best way to counter your over-scheduled and overworked lifestyle.

The Route to Happiness

Fantasizing about your vacation can bring temporary relief from the daily grind. However, vacations do have limitations. For example, a week or two vacation will leave a lifetime of memories, but the actual experience of it is relatively short. It is awesome for one or two weeks, but then it is quickly over and you are back at work hating life again.

Vacations are expensive and can be a financial drain. You might want to go on a longer vacation or take them more often, you just can’t afford to.

Vacations also require planning and organizing, and that is never much fun. You also need to stay within time parameters when taking a vacation. There are always places you have to be by a certain time otherwise the schedule falls apart and lives are ruined. For example, you have to be at the airport at a certain time, checked out of the hotel at a certain time and you have to hit the museum before it closes.

Hot Tub Advantages

Hot tub owners can use their hot tubs every day and a quality hot tub will bring you joy for many years. This means that you can soak in your hot tub whenever you are feeling like you need a break from reality. Owning a hot tub also gives you unlimited opportunities to invite family and friends over for a fun way to get together and socialize.

Spending time in your hot tub gets you more attuned to nature. No kidding. While sitting in your outdoor hot tub, you take more notice of the trees, the clouds, the birds and the other beauty in your back yard. The awareness helps you feel part of a greater world. This is a notion that improves happiness.

So do your part in helping make the United States move up on the World Happiness Report by buying a hot tub from Spa Max.
